Meet Madeleine Holland

Dr. Madeleine Holland is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, as well as the Moody College’s program manager for interdisciplinary education initiatives. Dr. Holland coordinates partnerships among departments both within the College and with other academic units on campus, at the undergraduate and graduate level. She also serves as a minority liaison for the Moody College of Communication.

Dr. Holland's teaching and research focus on the intersection of identity and relational communication. She is specifically interested in how individuals see themselves and how those perceptions contribute to experiences of emotions (such as uncertainty, jealousy, stigmatization, commitment, investment, and satisfaction with close relationships). Dr. Holland's research focuses strongly on the role that gender plays in influencing how individuals feel about their romantic relationships. Dr. Holland's research has appeared in a variety of journals, including Personal Relationships, Communication Education, and Psychology and Sexuality, in addition to popular magazine Psychology Today.
